To be honest, I never see any difference from registering or not a software with a softhouse. It's only useful for software have your e-mail and maybe send you newsletter or for support (usually googling for answers does better than any support system). Now if nintendo encourages people registering their games and win Wii Points, this would make people not download piracy copies of their game because they would be able to download older but cool games like Excite Bike, all Super Mario Bros series, Sonic series and so.
